Back from holidays

Wow are the easter holidays finished already? Did I blink? After a lovely camping trip over easter, where it ended up that I didn't have any time to craft let alone open my new homespun mag, we set off down the beach to stay in a house. I took some crotchet with me to practice. Once I have hooked up my external drive again I will post some pics. Until then sleep, not looking forward to the office tomorrow!!

Off Camping

Off camping for the long weekend. Camping for me doesn't usually mix well with my crafting, so the needle and thread (and alas the machine) will have to stay at home. I will have to practice the craft of photography instead. Might even find some more dinos lurking about. I took a whole series of this little guy last camping trip.

Craft Blog Tips

I found these craft blog tips on Whip up and I will be endeavouring to follow all of them. Thanks Whip Up. Just need to work out why the links I've set up aren't showing up as links. But if you wave your mouse over Whip Up it shows. Have to check the CSS. Any ideas?

First Bag

I finally took the plunge and made my first bag. I don't know what I was so afraid of!!

I have 3 bag patterns that I want to make so I decided to make the easiest before I take the plunge into Nicole Mallalieu's Carry All Bag (maybe I shouldn't have chosen and advanced pattern first!!). So I made the bag "Saturday Morning Tote" by Gail Pan out of Australian Homespun Vol 10.3.
I found this material in spotlight and wanted to use it for this bag so I didn't use the applique that was in the pattern. I don't seem to be able to stick to patterns lately!! I added two pockets inside for my phone and ipod. It was a bit tricky at first turning the strap but then I remembered the advice from Melly and Me on turning and that worked a treat and saved me heaps of time.
I've been wearing the bag for a week now and it seems to be working well, could do with it being a bit larger though and the strap a bit shorter, next time!!

I think I'm after a bag that isn't too big that its bulky but must fit everything in that I need every day, but when I don't need all the stuff it doesn't look too big, hmm, will see with the next one.

Aidan's 4th Birthday Present

After I met Audrey and Maude at the stitches and craft show I had to buy their robot pattern (not that it took meeting them to buy it!!)

It was very easy to make. I used a lot of the techniques that I learnt from the Melly and Me lecture. I reduced the stitch length I was using and this made a lot of difference to how the curves turned out. I also stuffed using big clumps so the neck was strong.

There were a few things that I did differently from what the pattern told me to do mainly due to how I have been making softies, not that I didn't want to do their techniques. I didn't use batting to pad and I ironed on the face and tummy before I stuffed, I also chose to close the arms in a different place, mainly due to being better at closing along a straight instead of a curve.

Well done Audrey and Maude on a great pattern, now I have to make the girl robot and this time I promise that I will stick to the pattern!! :-)

This is the robot before stuffing.

And this is the card that I made him.

And this is Aidan after recieving the robot, very happy boy :-)

I made a Lunar Jim cake for him, its his current favourite TV show. I couldn't find any Lunar Jim cakes either from our local cake shop or the internet so I found a general Little Hero tin and made it up from there. It didn't turn out too bad, i was happy with it and so was Aidan.
