Why did I stop? Who knows. I think I started to feel a pressure, pressure to write certain content, pressure to have a certain type of photograph, pressure to write regularly, gotta get those SEO tags just right.<br>
<br>
I started this blog to record what I was making at the time. Not to reach a certain audience or gain clicks and income. Not that that was what blogging was all about way back then.<br>
<br>
So I'm going back to basics. Writing for me. If there are people out there that find what I write interesting then you are welcome along for the ride.<br>
<br>
I work full time and life is pretty full on. I want to slow it right down, enjoy what i have. The kids are getting so big and I'm loosing track.<br>
<br>
This is my little corner.<br>
<br>
First up on the my sewing to do list is making <a href="https://oliverands.com/shop/digital-everyday-skirt-sewing-pattern.html" target="_blank">Liesl + Co.</a>'s Every Day Skirt. It's been on the to do list for quite a while but I need to make it a reality.<br>

First up this year is a shrug. Planned on making it for me. Ended up too small so I gifted it to my niece. Doesn't matter if I make a swatch test. I'm just a tight crocheter. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Something on the to do list for a while so it was great to finally make one. </div>

</div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Giant tea cup</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
We found a giant tea cup at the local garden shop. Not girly, big bonus. Little O picked most of the plants and found the water frog. There wasn't anything to buy for a fairy garden - probably a plus. We had a few succulents that needed to be replanted so didn't go overboard. We also had a few items that he'd collected on holiday recently he wanted to use. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Succulents outgrown pot</td></tr>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Now all it needs is some handmade touches. Luckily I'm a champagne drinker so my cork tops came in handy. </div>

I'm not known for my green thumb. In fact black thumb is a better description!! Then I discovered succulents, and not of the crochet variety. One plant type that doesn't seem to curl up and die when it sees me coming. So it would have been quite a shock to some to see me pottering around the garden on the weekend.<br />

I bought these succulents a few months back with grand ideas for a succulent garden. Well they just sat in their pots, not dying. Then a few weeks ago we went camping and discovered our kettles lid was unusable, like another in our shed, so brain wave!! Re-purposed into flower pots. It was a nice relaxing afternoon and I hope to do more of it. </div>

I stumbled across this book in the local library:<div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmYBuCeUvCSgYefOc7VHq1U6ZVZ9FGb8JPj5lY9D3XPP_0bsxhT0Wwz1N_BuII7GDwuE1Ea7NmcosIl57JpN60Y_dglwPhshZEGaeLN_q1JimiOo8wS7z4HsVwFWMMZTIUYkKBaanHxnA/s640/blogger-image-155766736.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmYBuCeUvCSgYefOc7VHq1U6ZVZ9FGb8JPj5lY9D3XPP_0bsxhT0Wwz1N_BuII7GDwuE1Ea7NmcosIl57JpN60Y_dglwPhshZEGaeLN_q1JimiOo8wS7z4HsVwFWMMZTIUYkKBaanHxnA/s640/blogger-image-155766736.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The beginners guide to dress making. Well I'm not a beginner but I needed something to get me back into it. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">So I declared 2016 is the year of the garment. Time to dig into the UFO pile!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I started making these placemats for Christmas 4 years ago!!!! They were all pieced I was just stuck on how I wanted them finished!! So on Monday I had a sudden urge to just finish them. I dug out the walking foot and batting and got stuck into quilting. I decided to make 2 into a table run instead of having 6 placemats. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I'm not sure what it's called but I've just backed them using the leftovers and turned inside. No binding then!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I noticed too late that my tension is screwed, so now I'm stuck again and they may sit in the UFO pile again for another 4 years!</div>

They are so satisfying to make. Also make a train journey very quick.<br />
<br />
Here is a run down of a few. Check out my Ravelry page <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/MandyMade" target="_blank">www.ravelry.com/projects/MandyMade</a> if you're interested in making one for yourself. The majority are now gifted, I managed to keep some to myself :-).<br />
<br />
I'll start from the latest. Unfortunately I didn't get photos of them all finished and being "modelled".<br />

I wanted a new single project hook pouch. I looked at all the patterns I have but none seemed to fit. I was resigned to making up my own when Michelle brought out her mending kit pouch. Perfect! It took me a little while longer to work out which fabric to use then get around to making it. </div>

One of the aims of making it was to help get my crochet mojo back. It's been a bit AWOL lately. Instead I think I've got my sewing mojo back instead! I enjoyed making it, uninterrupted too!! I was a bit worried about the turn out with all the interfacing used but it worked out fine. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I've been meaning to make a pouch or notebook cover for ages to help me cart around my "stuff" to meetings but never get around to it. But the other day while trawling through my Pinterest feed I came across a really quick to make pouch. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
It was unfortunately one of those pins that doesn't have the correct link (if I find it I'll post it otherwise go to my Pinterest feed). But it did have all the step by step in one image. So when I got home from work I whipped it up. I also added a lining and covered the ends. I'm not a fan of raw edges!! I used 2 10" squares and a 9" zipper. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Next off the overlocker we have Little O's PJs, complete with mismatch socks and his floating glass trick!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
It went a lot more smoothly this time. There was a lot more need to use the sewing machine for the top so I got to take mums banina for a spin, very nice. I chose a tricky pattern for my first time with this fabric but it worked out in the end! (See previous post for pattern info). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
So the decision now is, do I save up for an overlocker? I reckon I'll give it a year, if I've gone back to use mums one quite a few times then maybe I will!!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I had my very first overlocker lesson on Monday (serger to some folks). It's been one of those things I knew I had to eventually try!! Mum didn't have one when I was growing up and learning to sew so we had work arounds. She's had this machine for quite a few years now but for some reason I've resisted. Maybe it's the scary amount of threading!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
My boys are tall and thin and it's getting harder to find clothes that fit. I used to have the problem of age appropriateness for larger sizes but now it's just they are too wide. Surly I'm not the only mum with this dilemma!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
So, I've bitten the bullet to start making them. Lucky for me they love wearing handmade. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Simplicity pattern 1285</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
He was measuring a small in the waste (for 6-8 yrs) and large in length (for 14-16 yrs). He's 10, so now you understand my predicament!! I decided to just make the large this time and fiddle with sizing next time depending how they turn out. For tracky dacks they were fine around the bum. If they were meant to be fitted i would definitely make the small around the waste and legs. The length is perfect for now so he's not allowed to grow for a while!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
The lesson went well. I've mastered 2 pieces of fabric together, more than that and over seems needs to be worked on. I'm making the full PJs for Little O. I started the top. It's in a different fabric - interlock - and much easier to sew. He keeps asking if they are finished. It's going to be a long week for him until my next lesson :-). </div>

I'm trying to teach my boys that - rushing off to the shops and buying a new one - is not always the only or best answer. AJ wants to make a book pillow. We have a few small square pillows he could start with but the only one not currently in use has stuffing coming out. Out comes the needle and thread. He said he enjoyed it. Next up drafting a pattern and the whole design process. He's keen, just need to keep the momentum going! </div>

There are so many projects that I have forgotten to write about. First up are the finished Ballerina Mice I made for my Nieces for Christmas. I added photos of the mice in the making but forgot all about the finished ones. Well here they are.<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
They were lovely to make. You can read all about the materials used on my <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/MandyMade/ballerina-mouse" target="_blank">Ravelry page</a>. I mainly crocheted them on the train so they came together pretty quickly. They are so cute and were well received. I didn't add cheeks, I thought they were ok without them.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The pattern is <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ballerina-mouse-2" style="color: #666666; font-family: Verdana, 'Lucida Sans Unicode', 'Lucida Grande', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">Ballerina-Mouse</a><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Verdana, 'Lucida Sans Unicode', 'Lucida Grande', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"> by Mari-Liis Lille.</span></div>

I've been needing new placemats for ages. The kind you can chuck in the washing machine, not have to wipe down all the time! So I dug into my stash and found this ikea remnant I'd bought ages ago. Just enough to make 4 mats. It's a home deco weight so I didn't interface or pad. I just used calico on the back. AJ wants to make one himself so that's our first school holiday project. I'm aiming to make more that are double sided. Great stash busting project. Fabric was cut 14.5"X11.5" and used 1/2" seam allowance. </div>

It was too hot on Monday to do any crocheting so I thought I'd make a start on AJ's Christmas present. He's getting it early as he needs it for his dance concerts this weekend. Couldn't stand him carrying around a supermarket green bag with his dance stuff in it anymore!! So we both dug deep in the pattern pile and he chose I Think Sew's Katie Boston bag. I love how he can see a pattern and be able to project his own take on it, doesn't just look at it and see a girls bag because of the fabric used in the pattern. Yay!</div>

Just need to add the bias binding to the inside and I'm done! Think I might also add a base. I used thick fabric and interfaced but it needs more structure. Check out those shoes!! Well you can't really tell they are shoes yet, but they are cute. Yes I am making Ballerina Mice for my nieces. Both dancing obsessed at the moment. I have visions of them taking their Ballerina dolls to concerts for years to come, fingers crossed that will be a reality. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
They are really taking form now. I'm getting some very inquisitive looks on the train but more and more people are starting to ask what I'm making. I used to just stick with easy projects for the train, but I'm now getting very adventurous. Haven't pulled out the stuffing yet though ;-). If you are ever on a Hurstbridge train in Melbourne and see me crocheting away, stop and say hi :-).</div>
<div>

The pattern I am using for this project is by <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/155920601/pattern-ballerina-mouse-crochet?dead_redirect=93977939" target="_blank">lilleliis</a> and can be found on etsy. I want to try so many of her other projects too. I'm checking out her free bunny pattern so I can use up all that pink i'll have left over!!</div>

Have you found a great pattern lately? Please share.</div>

Check out that pink!!!! Not a colour I am used crocheting with, so bright. I'm not a pink girl, but my niece is. Both of my boys have gone through a pink phase, but not bright pink.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'm going to have heaps of it left over, now I need to work out what I can make with it! Pink dinosaurs maybe?</div>

I'm not used to such a large project!! These 100g balls are causing a bit of a storage problem. Hopefully they will minimise considerably. I've got more colours to add though ;-).</div>

I'm really enjoying making on the train again, and these girls are coming along really quickly. I'm a bit behind in writing about them, but that's ok. If you want to skip ahead check out my Instagram (look for dittocrafts) or flickr (click on the picture above).Mandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09380975988748475292noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7113116968076108437.post-87949078924360063142014-11-18T19:18:00.000+11:002014-11-18T19:18:21.080+11:00Dino Family<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<br />
It's a dino family!! I made most of these ages ago, you can see the little brown one in my banner, that was the first and is Little O. But AJ was bugging me to make his too. Don't know why it took so long for me to get around to it. They are quick to make, so he finally picked a colour and the yellow one was born. So now we have all 4 of us, in dino.<br />

Hello totally neglected blog! It appears having two blogs doesn't increase blog writing, it just makes you ignore both ;-). Well I'm hoping that will change!
This blog is after all meant for my personal craft making, not making for Ditto Crafts. So here is what I'm making at the moment. Gifts for my neices for Christmas. Can you guess what it will be?Mandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09380975988748475292noreply@blogger.com0
